Duplex Dress Duplex Dress
127 cm. H x 274 cm. W x 127 cm D” silk organza, linen, boiled wool, silk satin, paper
I have always been interested in symmetries, affects of mirroring, pairing, and the folding and unfolding of parts and wholes. In this case I wanted the individually asymmetric dresses to appear like they were floating, with out the content of a body, together forming a symmetrical pair. The accompanying two photos are of working class duplex homes, in Nova Scotia Canada. One of the homes is symmetrical and the other is a “half drop” arrangement. The table was used during the exhibition to custom draft woman’s bodice patterns.
