Obius & Rect
angle

This project came about at a Designing for Dance residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.

The challenge was to speak to the (three) choreographers theme as it related to the Surrealist notion of the Exquisite Corpse.

My solution became to create forms for the dancers that were not in a final state and could be in constant transformation, or not.

These pieces are based on geometric forms (rectangles and an obius strips), which through the insertion of slits could be worn in a variety of ways.  There was the option of reversibility between back and front, as well as the possibility to wear the pieces in any direction; up, down, or sideways.  This design concept fit into many of my interests as it relates to textiles and the body, movement, and open-ended physical play.
